UCHAPS membership consists of the urban jurisdictions directly funded by CDC for HIV prevention services and other highly impacted urban jurisdictions. UCHAPS has two membership categories – full members and affiliate members.
Membership is open to urban jurisdictions that have an active local HIV planning body whose purpose and mission include, but are not limited to, HIV prevention planning functions. The local HIV planning body must include demonstrated community representation. Each full member selects four active representatives to UCHAPS – two governmental representatives and two community representatives. One of the governmental representatives must be from the health department and is traditionally the lead staff person for HIV prevention programs within the jurisdiction; the jurisdiction may select their other governmental representative based on their own criteria. One of the community representatives must be the past, present or future community co-chair of the jurisdiction’s local HIV planning body. The jurisdiction may select their other community representative based on their own criteria. Community representatives must be members of the jurisdiction’s local HIV planning body that includes HIV prevention.
